Looks to me like Whirl pool at Gledfield/ Cornhill from the latter side.

Non correct so far Ok here is a clue. That river and the location is right below a well known tourist castle for that area. If that doesn't get it, another clue later.

I must admit, the first picture was very like a river up North with the Scots pine in the view. Thought that would sway a few thoughts

Well done Charlie, the cheques in the post ;D Thank you! Tricky one - I have to say it was only the picture with the castle that led me to it, and I've only seen it from the road, so no idea what the river is like. What's the story with the fishing there? I know they get a few salmon up at Dawyck, so presumably it's fishable here too, but is it any good? There's a link on the Neidpath website to the Peebles Angling Assn, but is seems only to be for trout & grayling.

The variation in pools and runs are probably not bettered anywhere on the upper river! Here comes the downside, it's part of the crown estates water and it quite literally gets raped! :-(

I think It is very low water on the Spey just upstream of where I caught a nice spring fish in 2009. The next beat downstream is Carron. This beat is owned by Dr Catherine Wills and the pool below is a dream to fish, but you have to get your line over the main stream to hang the fly in the holding area.but I might be wrong.
