Some of you will remember the sea trout I was catching with strange lesions- Whilst the pictures of the fish have appeared in quite a few places as evidence of the damage sea lice can do, Marine Scotland scientists and even our own BnC (who has a little experience in the field) refused to accept the lesions were caused by lice. Locally, only those with experience of aquaculture in its infancy agreed the lesions were caused by lice. I found this picture of a smolt showing damage caused by freshwater lice- I wonder if Brian will agree with me that the damage caused to the sea trout and the salmon smolt is very similar? So similar that he will agree with me that the lesions on the sea trout were caused by sea lice?

The wee smolt has a bad case of predator damage surely? A close escape from a birds beak by the look of things. I have seen damage by freshwater lice but it didn't look like that.
