*What is 3rd Party Hosting? Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website. For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum, Etsy, eBay auction listings, a blog, etc. is definitively 3rd party hosting.
Dear all - please see above extract from an email received this morning from Photobucket (I assume). They want $399 to 'upgrade' - which is 'ransom' speak for reinstating my forum pics (ALL of them) and allowing me to continue posting pics on this forum. You will have noticed that ALL of my pics have been replaced with a 'warning'.
It certainly looks like I have to pay the dosh or lose the forum pics ?
What to do ?

I would not think this comes from photobucket, looks like some malware has infected your account, I would contact photobucket to reset your account and password.

Looks like it's legit. See below email reply from PB admin. Other PB users be aware. Now, do I pay $399 pa - or not.
Alex (Photobucket Support) Jun 30, 9:19 AM MDT HI Andy, Thanks for emailing us. We have updated our terms of use. Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting for your current account level. Due to this, your account has been restricted. In order to continue using Photobucket to host your images, please upgrade to a Plus subscription. To upgrade to a Plus account, click here. Once you've completed your purchase, please clear your browser's cache and cookies to update your pages. Thank you. ________________________________________

Probably not worth it. Just about everybody uses Facebook these days. They don't presently charge to post photos. Unless there is an alternative method ?

Hi Mel. Are you saying that I can download images to a Facebook page (which I don't have - yet) then copy them over to this forum ?
Mind you, it would mean losing ALL the images I currently have on here.
I have just emailed PB with an impassioned plea - don't think it will come to much 'tho.
PS - strange that I was able to go into my PB account after the 'restriction' were placed earlier today and post the 4 'Kinnaird From The Hills' pics.

Andy I think that rather than paying the whole 399 USD in one bite they allow you to pay 16 USD per month. Why not upgrade with them to pro status for a payment of 16 USD? You can then move all of your images to another site such as Flikr which I believe is still free and has no stupid adverts on it. Then just cancel your pro membership with Photofuckwit

Me too and I qualify for a free account as I'm well below their limit, but still can't access to download some of my more important pictures. Terrible way to treat us. Where was the pre warning. Blackmailers

If you haven't had the email yet, expect it soon.
There's no way I'm paying these shysters any of my hard earned after this piece of foul play. There are now massive holes on the internet, especially forums where people have gone to the trouble of uploading reports, 'how tos', project threads etc across a whole range of interests. I have over 2500 photos and about 40 videos, and although I have most of them backed up elsewhere, I can't see me trawling through old posts and changing all the image codes.
Of course, this is what PB are playing to, hoping we'll give in to their ransom. The website has been deadly slow and filled with adverts for ages as well. I'll be using my Flickr account from now on.

I use Dropbox to store images. I don't know if I can use Dropbox to post images on the forum because I have never tried but I can group a few together and put on a weblink so that third parties can access them and I have done this before on this forum. It costs me £7.99 a month.

I have tried a number of ways to attempt to make a Dropbox Link image visible 'real time' but have thus far only been able to post links as with the link below of my wife's cats. A piccy of Gertude and Daisy as kittensIn order to achieve this I had to create a Dropbox Link for an image stored on Dropbox. I have thus far been unable to find a way of posting a 'real time' image but will continue to investigate

My own Photobucket access is fine. I do however pay them £14.00 per month as I took out the 'ad free' option ages ago as I got really, really pissed off with being bombarded with silly adverts every time I tried uploading pictures or downloading links for Websites and fora

Appears to be ok for the moment. Are you seeing your pic and avatar Bill ? - because I'm not !! Just wondering if 'my ban' means I cant even see pics posted by other Photobucket users. Still no answer to my email. I guess the way they see it is they have informed me of the reason and will enter into no further dialogue. This has fair scunnered me.
