I haven't been on here for a while but I though members might like to see the big salmon that I caught on the Grimsa River in West Iceland in late June of this year. The fish was landed after 40 minutes and was hooked on my 9ft 7 weight Orvis rod. The fly was an 1/8" Langa Microhitch(pictured below). The fish rose to the hitch twice before being hooked on the third attempt. I knew it was a big fish as soon as it took. The fish left the pool pictured after being played for 35 minutes. When the fish eventually began to tire I could not hold it and it went downstream over a waterfall into the pool below. I gave the rod to my guide Benji who is pictured with the fish. He followed/chased it downstream to the next pool where it was netted by my rod share partner who had patiently waited whilst I played the fish. A team effort. Photos courtesy of Stuart Dawson and myself.
A day without too bright a beam. A warm, but not a scorching sun. A southern breeze to curl the stream and, mister, half your work is done.
