I managed 31 on Lewis between the last week of July and the first week of October. Best was 11.5lbs and nearly all fresh fish. I reckon I had one for every 4 hours fishing.... (which I think is a better way of deciding if I had a good year). But then, I am lucky in that I can pick my moment. Total cost in permits was about £4 per fish. I didnt mention the Tweed because that was too much, far too much, per fish! £30 seaon ticket on local Assoc. a further 8 x £5 evening sessions on a private beat which I cannot name. 2 x £40 blank days on PAC Lower Tummel days, a wet blank £150 week at Forres. Mind you would not like to put any hours on it. Tweedsider

I caught 14 salmon and 31 sea trout from North Wales rivers, and 2 salmon from the Tummel and Tweed.
A good season on the local rivers, but river levels were low on my awaydays to Scotland.
Points of note were:
caught my earliest ever salmon - 16 March on Welsh Dee. caught my first April salmon - Tummel caught my first June salmon - Conwy More sea trout in the 6-8lb bracket around this year.

15 salmon and 3 sea trout for the season from Dee, North Esk, Spey, Tweed, North Tyne and Annan.
A good year for me (despite losing lots). Some bigger fish -very few tiny grilse like last season.
Still got a couple of days left at the end of the season on the Tweed so hopefully I can add a fish or two to the tally.

42 for me all on fly and the rods are well and truly stowed away. Only 1 springer, probably the smallest one off the river spey all spring, about 5lbs on the 10th April.. Then next fish was August 15th. I only had 2 in October so you can see August / September was fantastic. 2 days of 6 and a day of 7 helped. Biggest fish 22lb. A sea liced 19 was the highlight off the Spey with water on. mind blowing scrap. I agree with Leo, glad to see the skinny grilse were not as prolific. Only had 1 die due to bleeding so all in all it was a cracking season. Just hope it's a good spawning year.

Just have gone through my records, after a recount my total for the season is 72 salmon and grilse and 8 sea trout. A bit less than average, I took a lot of my days off in the early part of the season when runs were poor and so didn't have enough days left once the fish appeared in numbers in August. My annual week on the Deveron this year was also a bit of a washout, I usually rely on this week to bump up my sea trout catch. It has been an enjoyable season none the less. I have fished quite a few new beats and rivers and met a lot of new people, including quite a few forum members.

I sympathise with Graham, nothing worse than using up all of your leave and being unable to go fishing - I suppose it's even worse if you're stuck on a rig and can't fish the weekend either! ;D

Especially if you are stuck on an oil platform off Shetland during the two most productive weeks of the season.

One thing I noticed during August and September was the amount of fish that I lost, it was slightly more than 50%. Normally I would look to land about 70 to 80% of the fish I hook, and this was the case generally during the other months of the season, but during August & September they just would not stick on the hook. One of the reasons I think was due to me using Sawada Low water double hooks, the size 6 and 8 are fine, but the size 10, which I used a lot during this period, seem to be a bit too fine. The main reason I think that the losses were so high during this period, was that I was hooking so few resident fish, almost everything was covered in long tailed sea lice. These really fresh fish often tend to snatch at the fly and as a consequence often tend to be lightly hooked. Their flesh in their mouths tends to be a little softer when they first enter freshwater, similar to fresh run sea trout.

This season was a poor one in terms of salmon caught... but a great one for catch and release. One caught with only two weeks of the season to go on a waddington (rogie). The water was lowish but had been freshened up by a little rain. One released and now hopefully doing the necessary...

It's not over for me yet as I'm planning a day or two on the Nith next week (so long as water levels allow) but it has been my best season ever. 4 salmon hooked, I'm not including anything that was on for less than 2 seconds 4 salmon landed, the first of which was my first ever. 2 from the Tay on spinner (both about 3lb), 1 from the Annan on fly (4.5lb), 1 from the Nith also on fly (6lb). I'm hoping to see something closer to a double from the Nith . 1 fish retained due to injury, bleeding from the eye and only noticed when being placed back in the water to recover prior to being released . So it would have been 100% C&R except for this . Countless new friends Lots more knowledge The numbers don't make for pretty reading when the hours spent are factored in...... 21 22 full days ;D ;D. Lets not mention the £££££s The interesting thing I find is the 100% hooking to landing ratio, could this be to do with using trebles? EDIT: After a trip today to the Town Water on the Nith, my final tally remains at 4

Final update for me is,
21 fish caught. 4 fish retained all for the old mans table. 36 trips made on the Rivers North Esk, Dee, South Esk, Isla, Tay, Feugh, Nith, finishing off on the Tweed.
Like Dan, made numerous new angling buds. Fished new rivers and beats which were all superb. The quantity of fish seen on most of the rivers was pretty good and encouraging.
Biggest Salmon was off the South Esk at 13lb. Biggest Sea Trout was off the North Esk at 4lb.
Surprisingly i never hooked any Brown Trout.
Cheers
