Did anybody get a nice fishing related present?
I didn't, but I bought myself a sat nav at Halfords, which could be useful for trips north.

Merry Christmas Conwy. Sat-Nav ye say ?? ..... better getting a guid map and a sense 'O direction ........ still got the receipt ? No fishy stuff for me this Christmas - Mrs Tip has been banned from even thinking about such presents ever since she bought me a 'Winfield' Bubble-Float Making Kit and a selection of 'swim feeders' to mark our first wedding anniversary. Being neither of these shores nor culture, she now understands the true meaning of Christmas and gives only booze, faGs or hard cash although she has been known to hide The Broon's Annual and a 'Milky Bar Kid' selection box 'neath my feather pillow on Christmas night ....... bless. For those of you unfamiliar with "The Broon's' book", it is a bi-annual and much anticipated piece of Scottish social commentary as seen through the various exploits of a large, disfunctional but well meaning family and a quality read to boot (highly recommended) ....... canny wait til bedtime. yours aye ... a yuletide STip

Merry Christmas to Mr & Mrs Tip.
The Broon's annual, a glass of Irn Bru and a deep fried Mars bar, what more could a scotsman desire at Christmas? ;D
With lamson as a map reader, I'll take my chances with the sat nav!

I'm looking forward to Chris Newton's book on Hugh Falkus which has been described on another well known salmon forum as an autobiography. Being Christmas I have not the heart to tell him that Chris Newton's autobiography would be about Chris Newton. I might be wrong and the Hugh Falkus title could just be a very clever sales pitch.

The older I get the more use I find for handerkerchiefs at Christmas. First it was when the missus uses up most of my Seaguar for putting up the fairy lights - that brought a tear to me eye.
Next it was my Lagartun gold, silver, pearl and blue flatbraids used to tie up little twee boxes with pralines - my shirt was drenched!
Lastly it is seeing the kids opening their presents. Don't get me wrong it is great to see the excitement on their faces but I could not believe what came out of the loft. We had agreed on one major present and the boys needed new skis so they both got the dual tips. My wife had slightly grander plans. The opening ceremony saw new ski jackets, new ski boots, new gloves, balaclavas, thermals. XBoxes, Transformers, etc etc. I wept like a banshee when I thought of the next visa bill ;D
In my day we had some meccano, a sock with an orange and some brazil nuts and the old selection box.
Oh my how I need those hankies!

"In my day we had some meccano, a sock with an orange and some brazil nuts and the old selection box." (salmo) .... you were lucky salmo !! I considered myself to be a very lucky boy the year I got some home made Bubble's (a bottle of '1001 carpet shampoo'), a Johnnie Ray calendar tab and an unopened Fray Bentos ...... still, it's the thought that counts.

I'm sure it was pretty tough in them days ;D I had worked well at school and my mum believed it was less trouble than a dog so in that sense, the rod was the smarter option So i'll just need to wait to get my beloved springer spaniel Ryan

Ryan,
Where abouts do you fish on the Clyde. I know the areas around Daldowie & Kirkfieldbank pretty well.

Hornet, I fish around the blantyre area in the spring/early summer although i much prefer the UCAPA waters at mauslie bridge, overton farm, etc. It is a different class from the mid, although the mid is great for the numbers of fish, i get more enjoyment from the upper and it looks great with a good bunch of guys as well Will you be fishing the Clyde next year ? Maybe see you there, Cheers Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I will definitely be fishing the Clyde. I have access onto a wee stretch in between the UCAPA water. A nice stretch which never gets fished.
The stretch at Daldowie will be getting covered by my mate who is going to take it over as the new Bailiff. This not far from yourself so this could be a good meeting point.
Cheers

Hornet, I am about a 10 minute walk from the crematorium. I have never fished at greyfriars before but have heard good reports, i think it's up pretty high today. I'll be going down in the spring and after May(exams) i'll be down even more Tightlines
