A Spey springer, it's highly unusual for me to catch one of them! Just ask WG.

I thought Graham would have mentioned the flounders I caught on the fly whilst fishing the Deveron above Turriff, for some reason it seemed to amuse him.

Yes but what type of fly did the 'flook' take, was it the Garden Fly Malcolm I have heard of Flatties and eels being caught on the Deveron on fly - floating lines too! I caught a pineapple in the boat-pool at Kinermony last August in absolutely perfect condition. Released of course as it was my first ;D

When sea trouting:
numerous bats - one on my very first cast last season. 2 eels a 2lb flat fish, a flounder I think.
When salmon fishing - a fertiliser bag - what a take, and what a "fight"!

2 bats seatrout fishing at night. 1 Swift on the dropper when salmon fishing on Tyne, nearly drowned him/her while riffling it back across the stream Stuck on a fence to dry out prior to a successful release. 1 Swan (fully grown) actually tangled rather than hooked, when coarse float fishing as a youngster on the Dee at Chester bandstand. The fight was a bit one sided with 3lb BS but got considerably more so when the swan decided to take off up the river :( Long distance release was the only option left ;D

As my parents still recall to this day, as a bairn I went out one evening (just after Z Cars if memory serves) to our local burn with the intention of lightening its stock of plump 'golden belly' troots by at least a brace. Having achieved this within a very short space of time (No 1 Mepps ), I was making my way home in my usual covert manner when I came across a tarpaulin covered mound at the edge of a stubble field. Being the curious kind I had a wee skek under it only to discover a barry load of recently shot doo's. Aff came the jersey and the shirt in a flash - knots in sleeves were tied and the young STip returned triumphantly to the family seat with in excess of 50 woodies and twa troot. Along with the rest of the 'travelers' on our site, a feast was prepared with the subsequent celebrations going on until the wee small hours ....... Ah ! the halcyon days. STip BTW - its either that or I tell you about what you were likely to catch with 'throw'ey oot' lines aff the end of the various 'shitey pipes' in the Tay estuary.

A bullock by the nose so I suppose it was foul hooked, unfortunately it was in the days when I had about 6 flies to my name and the loss of that greenwell spider was a major tragedy. Oh and it did have me down to the backing before it broke me.
