Feb issue has an editorial regarding the merging of:
Salmon & Trout Association Anglers Conservation Association National Federation of Anglers National Angling Council National Association of Fisheries & Angling Consultatives
and perhaps the National Federation of Sea Anglers will also join in?
Does this planned move ?for 2009? reduce the duplication of effort of these bodies, so as to better represent anglers' concerns?

It can only be a good thing, strength in numbers. You only have to look at the success of organisations like the RSPB and their influence in government decisions. It can only strengthen anglings voice on issues which have a detrimental effect on the environment, on pollution issues, future hydro/barrage schemes, restoration of rivers and it will provide a united front in the face of any attacks by the anti's.

Totally agree with Mike & Graeme, there are far too many angling organisations which can only weaken representation. There are probably 6 of which I should be a member:- local fishery trust, SANA, ACA, Atlantic Salmon Trust, Salmon and Trout Association, Wild Trout Trust, and probably several more.
It could be argued that they all fulfill different functions but I am sure that it could be simplified into one or two national bodies and one local. A more integrated approach would strengthen the angling case
