Good Day to All! My name is Pat and I live in St Louis Missouri, USA, as close to the middle of our Country as you can get! While I have never fished Salmon or what we call Steelhead, here in the States, I hope to get to do so someday! I am a hobbiest of a Fly Tyer, enjoying learning the art and experimenting with flies for Trout and warm water fish of our area! We are blessed with a wide variety of fishing sport that can be enjoyed with the use of flies. Most recently, I have extended my studies towards the making of flies, both "old styles" and modern, that are common in other ares of the world! I find your site a place to learn and greatly thank you all, for the chance to interact with you here! take care! FliTrap
“For those, however, who “dress” their own flies, the pleasure of banking an extra sulky Salmon, from whose jaw they proceed with all tenderness to extract the product of their own skill in fur and feather. Attains its height, when the pattern of the fly is their own invention. ….. Surly it is worth considering that by this delicate and fascinating art, the pleasures of fishing are extended over a longer period of the year. They begin not at the opening of the season on the river-bank, but weeks, even months before…. Saving many a man from the task of “filling time”.” (G. M. Kelson in “the Salmon Fly”)

Hi Flitrap,
Thanks for introducing yourself and welcome to the forum.
If you are just starting out in salmon fishing check out the board 'Getting Started - Helping Out' or just fire a question out on the General board. There are plenty of folk here willing to help.

Hi Pat Welcome to 74. We have some very experienced tyers on this forum who are only to happy to pass on tips and advice. I am very much an amateur tyer, and the guys on here have been helping me through my early days of tying, for which I am very grateful.

Have just joined today having enjoyed reading the messages. Every one seems very helpfull and friendly I am a learner at salmon fishing ie. the more i fish the less i seam to know. Have rented a beat of the river Earn, near the tidal part for the last thirty years which is now fly only which suits me. Was given a computer for Christmas so am still very "green" when it comes to usuing it. Bob
