The summer seems to be flying past and it's the 1st August tomorrow.
For me, the best of the sea trout fishing is over, although we get a run of smaller fish into September and there's still a chance to hook a decent fish as they make their way up river.
The emphasis will gradually change over to day time salmon fishing towards the end of the month, subject to water levels - the long range forecast is looking fairly wet!
Where will you be fishing in August?

August generally heralds the start of bigger catches for my own fishing - although nothing really comes close to spring fishing in Scotland for me
Looking forward to the Tyne mostly this late summer and back end, also fishing the Dee at the end of September at Crathes.
Will also fish on the Wear and Border Esk, and perhps the Tay

Somebody 'up there' must like me. After a long (ish) dry spell a decent bit of rain has arrived just in time to coincide with my annual week beginning August 4th on the South Esk at Downiepark - good things expected. Arrive back in the UK late Saturday - hame aboot midnight - get the kit sorted ...... and were offski !! - braw min. The second week of August will see me hammer my own wee syndicate water, again, on the South Esk at Upper Careston. The third week in August will see my guid self holding the fort on the Dalguise beat of the Tay whilst the young brer and his party cause havoc and mayhem on their annual busman's holiday to Deeside - lock up yer sheep !!. Last week in August will see me again return to my wee syndicate water on the 'Southie' by which time Mrs Tip will, in all probability, be filing for divorce. Its a hard life. ;D Regards to all. STip

Tamar next weekend for some sea trout and hopefully salmon next week. Hoping to get out on the Dart if it has another decent rise also. Third week in September I'm off to the Alness.

Had a days rod sharing with Sinky at Cortachy on Friday and never seen a fish all day. I did get a few pulls but nothing solid. After Sinky and the numerous syndicate rods doing well all week i was feeling confident of hooking into a fish or two. Sadly it wasn't to be. Next day i met up with the old man at Forfar and headed up to Pert on the North Esk. The river was at a good height and looking peaty, certainly better than last weeks viewing. Set up the Angel double hander and Mach II floater and started off with a size 11 cascade. Within minutes a few fish were showing in the Luther pools throat so confidence was high after the previous days blank . Mid morning the rain started to fall quite heavy so i started praying that the river would hold steady. I decided to have a wee run up to the top of the bottom beat and changed flees to a size 11 orange flame thrower . I fished the Mill pool hard keeping note of hitting the far bank as the fish lie quite close to the side. Half way down i had one good solid pull, but funnily enough no fish were showing. Moved out of the Mill pool and down onto the Black Burn pool and after my second cast i hooked a fish on the dangle. I left the flee on the dangle slightly longer than usual as i was given shall we say advice from Sinky on Friday. An excellent fight and a nice 7lb grilse was landed. Left the pool to rest and stumbled down over the slippery rocks to the Luther pool once again as the old man was having a rest. Few casts at my favourite spot and thump i'm into another fish. A beauty and bang on 10lbs. That's three fish i have taken from the same spot this season, 10lb , 12lb and 14lb. Funny how you can go from one day to another asking so many questions about this sport but i guess that is Salmon fishing for you !!! I'm now hoping that the Dee next Tuesday will be kind Cheers Hornet

hornet... congratulations with the fish, especially after the blank the day before. Hopefully the old man got one too! I went fishing yesterday. Covered a fish with no luck. Gave way to an older gentleman and within two minutes an nice 4lber was on the end of his line. (I'm thinking of going on telly and playing mastermind. Specialist subject? Blank days! ;D At least I had the pleasure of seeing a fish being landed.) Well done once again. hf
