After my escapades at Hoddom yesterday it was back to work tday, that was until the heavens opened up around 1pm,so i downed tools and got the gear and off to the river for a hopeful look at conditions. On arrival, to my disappointment the water was high and dirty.... no surprises really after the constant rain, anyhow i was here and had time on my hands so i tackled up. First of all i had to find a pool that would fish,i didn't have a full sinker on me so it was 2 fast sink poly leaders on a snowbee id floater and the old faithful junction shrimp tube (copper)1 1/4 inch. I had surprising results considering...a few photo's. The chosen pool (neck) Looking down twards the tail. The chosen lure. I'm in. The result 3 fish. I fished this pool for 3 hours ,it is normally canal like but not tday,i tried other likely bits but they were running too hard,i had an other offer ,but i think if I'd had a full sinker it could've been better. I've had fish in coloured water before but not as dirty as that, just goes to show, find the right venue and the fish are there ,well there's always a chance. By the way casting with two fast sink polys is a nightmare, but in the conditions i didn't think it made much difference.

salmonking.... well done on the two days fishing. The colour of that water is almost unbelievable.! Do you reckon that it was the dark body and black tubing of the junction shrimp that dioes the business? Gives us a bit of hope for when our own rivers are the same. (thanks for the pics) Cheers hf

Hf,when you look at the colour of this fly/lure black ,orange and white it has imo all the ingredients for fishing dirty water, add a bit flash and it's game on,the pattern rarely fails for me in coloured water,on that particular pattern the head is tied with a large white cock hackle, but i also use the standard bucktail pattern as well.

Well done Col on the fish and for the shared knowledge
I am stunned by the water colour. Do you have a shot of that fly in the water?
When the colour is dark the fish would have a hell of job seeing any red so probably picking up the white colours.

Well done Col, reminds me of somewhere else not too far from here, not a bad wee fishie. A little tip, replace the black silicone tubeing with hot orange it looks a treat in the water, and possibly a good aiming point for the fishes to grab..M
