This post is mainly aimed at the great unwashed whose ramks I am pleased to be a member thereof. I realise that a great many members of this esteemed forum move in the higher echelons of society and angling and will not need the following advice.
On many Association Waters there is no gillie or other estate worker to keep the river in order, why some people are reluctant to do a bit themselves is a mystery. Regarding summer weed growth, this can block a previous productive lie. pull it out, do a bit weeding. But do it under cover of failing light so as others are unaware you have created a prime angling spot. I think about 15 minutes work this past season has secured me at least 6 fish.
See that willow sapling, pull it out today, next season it will be a bush- in 5 a tree blocking access to a favourite run or lie and will merit chain saw treatment. Do it now! A situation where Spey casting is not feasible, your back cast hanks on thistles and other bank side herbage - well at least stamp the stuff down instead of moaning, dont overdo it though or every plonker in the club will realise that the pool is now a fishable proposition. Check your club permit for the rules first mind you before vandalising bank side forests.
