I thought that would grab your attention. ;D
A very successful tactic for rainbows, and fishing a small or semi buoyant fly on a fast sinker/shooting head and short leader is known to catch salmon in certain conditions.
A angler on Craigellachie tempted a fish in low water conditions last april, the only fish caught in our 3 days.
Has anyone caught a salmon using this tactic? When is it worth a try?

I believe a Mr. CLaG wrote about this or something rather similar on the old forum. I'm going to give it a go this year and I'm in the middle of tying up some bouyant, and somewhat plug like , flies to twitch through the deep pools. I'll report back on my failure at the end of the season... Andy

i have seen guys using big orange boobies on a spinning rod with a weight bellow (Devon style) fishing for "RAINBOW" on the lower tay. and they are devastating shame the gyps get 50% of the fish in the side legal poaching and total maddens. worth a try fished proper on a fly rod they do hook lots of salmon in the mouth

.....but will failure to catch a fish on the Exe actually prove anything? Ah, you have spotted the flaw in my cunning plan. However just imagine for a moment that I actually catch one, what better endorsement could the method have: "Boobies, they even work on the Exe!" Andy

Surface fishing Boobies is devastating for Trout. Long leader and slow figure of eight and hold on . Never tried this for Salmon especially in low water conditions. In colder weather i used the fast sink line and short leader with the boobie popped up and again fished really slowly. Cheers Hornet
