Got to be Delfur, any time of the season would be a dream Failing that anywhere lower to mid Spey in April/May, Carron looks superb, especially when photographed by Speyvalley. Where is he by the way Agreed, bring back the weegie (has to be one of the best posters and well informed salmon fishers)!

Following everyone's else's sentiments here, having never fished it I'd like a crack at Delfur mid - late April on the Spey.

Wester Elchies, Spey. It looks like a fabulous bit of well managed, conservation conscious and gentlemanly led piece of water - where isn't on the Spey ? Failing this, Upper Murthly, Tay, April onwards. Tip, you are spot on ,Sam the Ghillie is superb ,the beat is classic ,real thinking mans fly water ,stunning scenery ! I have a fond memory of it this febuary sitting on the veranda of the fishing hut in shirt sleeves (one of three days on the river this year shirt sleeves were sensible ) ,coming out of the fishery at the top of the hill after sunset it was -5 c .

I'd like to fish the beat opposite Upper Arndilly from what I heard this spring Andrew, only if you are on the right week rotation, by all accounts. Otherwise you will need some ironmongery, apparently ;D ;D

Otherwise you will need some ironmongery, apparently ;D ;D That's the problem with single bank beats - so much depends on who your opposition turns out to be. I don't think a single bank beat could ever by my absolute dream. Incidentally, Ashley Cooper pointed out that one of the drawbacks of the Dee is that so much of it is single bank. One of the great advantages of the Spey is that almost all the fishing is double bank, with the exception of the section of river from the bottom of Carron & Laggan to the top of Arndilly. (counting Carron & Laggan as de facto double bank beats). I'd quite fancy getting hold of Wester Elchies, Kinermony and Delagyle for the same week (and fishing them with a maximum of ten rods instead of the current thirteen)!

I certainly understand the views on single bank fishing and as a Ghillie would much prefer double bank - Its a huge advantage. I don't however think that there are too many beats with 'opposition' who don't 'communicate' effectively, although you will notice the careful choice of grammer. Tell you what, I'll look after 1 rod for the week Charlie along with the wine, how's that. Just don't make it the week I'm on Delfur..... ;D

The top bit of Rothes overlaps with Arndilly doesn't it? In early March with the high water and a strong wind there was no danger of me fishing his water!

As you might guess from the name, there's a lot of fishing in the Long Pool; many people wouldn't manage to cover the whole of it in one session, and I think there's usually only one rod on each side, so not much problem in working round one another. In fact each side seems to concentrate on different sections of the pool anyway. If you look at the old maps, Arndilly formerly had much less on the left bank; I think the current owner did deals with his neighbours to arrive at the current boundaries, and I'm sure the beat is the better for it. But as Jock says, no doubt most single bank beats work round the issue; it's in nobody's interests not to.

Yes, Long pool was very long. A good half mile at least!
