A mepps is fine Andy - a great way to fish on a small spate river.

Looks nice over here, folks! I was a member on SFF for quite some time (bit of a lurker) and thoroughly enjoyed all your tales of woe, up-to-date information and humour. I do most of my salmon fishing in the Hebrides on a single-handed rod and its been a long time since I used a 15fter but if I can contribute anything then I'd be only too happy. Good luck with the new forum Salmo. I wish you all every success - on and off the riverbank.

Good timing, I'm stuck on Skye next Saturday morning waiting for the ferry out to Lochmaddy. Do you know anything about the small Skye rivers or are you more Lewis based? Andy

I've fished the Snizort before, not too far from Uig too. If you google it, theres a website run by a guide on the river, or the Skeabost Hotel does permits. Used to fish very well in September after lots of rain, until they plonked a great fish farm in the sea loch.

Hi Andy, I usually fish Lewis and Harris waters so I can't really help you regarding Skye, but there seems to have been a few salmon and sea trout caught lately on North Uist where you're heading, particularly on loch nan Geireann Mill. Incidentally, I'm just reading Stephen Johnson's book Fishing From Afar just now which has a good few chapters about sea trout fishing on Skye. He was shot down during WW2 and taken PoW during which time he wrote a book about his fishing experiences on Skye. Worth a look. Personally, I wouldn't do without a Camasunary Killer on the tail. Deadly fly far out west. Oh, and some kind of long-shank muddler (usually black or orange) on the dropper. Either way, good luck.

Andy Googled it for you: www.skyeghillieflyfishing.co.ukNot sure he should really be encouraging 12lb stale cock fish to be chapped, but there you go.

Welcome SH I should have been fishing on the Eden today, but am stuck at the PC & dictating system (& no, I'm NOT a dictator!) so that my secretary can finish off urgently required work before both she & myself (not together - she doesn't fish!) have a few well-earned days off. I'll be getting back to SbS's after I return late Saturday. Mike

Thanks AA - full time whistle has just blown so, if you don't mind, I shall retire to the coal bunker with a wee 'lanny' perchance a 'buckie' chaser. Keep the Nith levels up for us - the bairns are looking forward to it Best regards STip

Only ever fished once for Salmon and thanks to Exerod caught a super fresh run salmon on the one and only attempt.
Looking forward to fishing a bit more for them as the years go on.
