I wonder if someone could help me with my spey casting? I feel I have improved a lot in recent weeks and can work away off both banks (the fly is in the water at least). When I form the D loop then cast, the fly leaves its anchor point and travels backwards following the path of the D, sometimes catching the bank behind me. On videos by the pros the fly seems to lift off the water and travel forwards. I'm mostly using a Rio AFS Outbound line with about a yard of the marker out of the rod. The cast usually flies out well enough and can take a few yards of running line with it but I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Troot, How you doing, re your anchor problem, it will depend on where you are placing your line, there are ways to spey cast from the bank. Sounds like a lesson from a qualified instructor would be a good idea, whare are you located ?
Take care, T&J.
