On the 22nd September 2007 in the Kingdom of Dumfries and Galloway, a successful challenge was made to the reign of the Salmonking (Col) a gathering of trusty knights gathered on the banks of the mighty river Nith at Barjarg ( a traditional jousting area) to witness the spectacle. The Kings entourage consisted of Sir Robbie: Sir Hornet of Dundee: Sir Anonymous (Who remained incognito throughout the day as he had escaped from his care in the community helpers and was in hiding. To ensure fair play was observed we employed the services of Sir Annan Angler (His mum loves him!!) The Young pretender (Sir Dan of Salmon) prepares to do battle Meanwhile the reigning King Salmon (Col) smiled confidently and tackled up his weapons. the King and the young pretender set off to do battle (note how the King was already cheating with 2 rods ) Meanwhile Sir Robbie (who had alway fancied being King tried the Crown for size while Security threatened an innocent passer by with a severe rogering if he did not b...r off (Note waders down at the ready) Despite desperate measures (fishing 2 rods at once ) the King failed to retain his crown. As was posted elsewhere Sir Dan of Salmon, was the Victor with a beautiful fish of maybe 8lbs. The former King tried to blame others for his failure, especially Sir Tweedsider (who was not even there!!!) until it was pointed out that the former King always ties his own flies. The crowning ceremony was a very solemn affair. Knights struggled to hold their tears back and many had lumps in their throats as the new King, Dan of Salmon was duly crowned. And then we all rode off home and lived happily ever after.

The crowning affair was indeed something to behold. Last I heard was the TRUE King galloping away on his fine german steed swearing to smite the Johnny come lately infidels who had so rudely stolen his thunder. The next time Hell's Anglers meet to do battle/cause havoc, I will gladly hand the crown back to it's rightful owner upon production of a suitable performance (or pictorial/witnessed evidence thereof) The deposed King may indeed get his chance to wrestle the crown back when we meet next. Lower Caberston on Tweed in November will surely be the site of a never to be forgotten battle royale. An excellent day, and a pleasure to fish in the company of such all round top men. Until the next time, I bid you farewell.

I've always liked your posts and encouraging advice, your enthusiasm and your keen sense of wishing others well in thier pursuit of salmon fishing, but PLEASE... dont tell me you dragged these poor unfortunates round the home of the Six-Toed Beasts! Push on further along the M8 and come off at Govan and give them a real treat!!
Cheers

Dear Friends - Let me state at the outset that I believe none of us NEED any more fishing buddies as we probably all have enough as it is. In common with myself I would imagine that we all have a motley crew of fishing friends that would put the 'extras' list of the movie Zulu to shame. They come, they go, some are for life, some are for the duration of a particular given fishing day or week and some, unfortunately, last only as long as the invites are forthcoming (the 2-way process version).
However, it is my firm belief that, apart from the invaluable resource of knowledge exchange facilitated by forums such as this, the other major attraction is similar to the one that I had the good fortune to experience on this particular get together......a situation, I assume, that is not new to some of the existing forum members.....but up until that point it was to me.
Friday 1pm - informed my 'staff' that I would be working from home. 2pm - found myself being driven at high speed in very flash motor by Hornet in a southerly direction. Up to this point my only 'link' to Hornet was his having having been the recipient of the 2nd prize in an SFF thread where people basically competed to lose the plot in a musical sense.
5pm - Arrived in Thornhill - straight out of doctor Finlay's Casebook and looking like, in my mind, the vision I have of limbo. Pulled up in the hotel car park and was quickly approached by two dodgy looking geezers (one from the left and, shortly thereafter, one from the right)......enter Roberto Paparazzi (robbie) and Salmonking. Within a very short space of time the car park was awash with a heady mixture of nervous energy and testosterone - in the interests of public safety we decided to remove ourselves from the public glare and 'walk the beat'.
6pm - Roberto, who had fished the water before, was in full flow explaining the finer details of one particular pool when we heard a shout from the high bank directly behind us...... "C'mon the Teddy Bears". Turning around startled we almost shat ourselves to see 'one bad mother' and his henchman (the quiet one with the piercing eyes in most TV dramatisations).....enter Annanangler and Salmondan. Straight away I knew AA had 'class' - his tattoos were spelt correctly - eh'll tell yeh - ye widna want to mess with this fellah Salmondan, with the diplomacy and timing of a UN ambassador, quickly defused the situation with a broad Yorkshire "Eh-up lads"....my how we all laughed
7pm - Further reconnaissance took place with Salmonking being noted by some of the other guy's as having "paid too much attention" to Roberto's briefing therefore opening himself up for the accusation of having a 'game plan' - this boy meant business
Shortly thereafter we all retired to a local hostelry where drink was taken - lets just leave it like that.
Six guy's - never met before apart from through this forum - talking in tongues and having a rare old time - great !!
Saturday 8am - Woke up at fishing hut - lots of 'kit' fleeing aboot -plans hatched - flies chosen - rods flexed - snouts stolen - questions asked - questions answered - 3 upper / 3 lower....and they're off !!.....well kind of
By lunchtime Salmondan and myself had a fish each (both expertly played carefully returned of course) - which, considering the conditions, wasn't too bad. Lunch was a traditional affair with copious amounts of Buckfast and potted heid - splendid !!.....and my compliments to the chemist BTW !!! We 'fished' for a couple of hours after lunch with one of the party providing excellent entertainment with an impromptu Grayling masterclass.
4pm - Tired but happy we all decided to call it a day and return to our loved ones.......that is, all except me who was taken on an unplanned tour of Glasgow's east side by Hornet via a "brullyint chipper...an at".
Facilitating occasional days like this are what good forums should, or could, be about. Long may it continue. Thanks again guy's for a memorable day. Regards to all as always. STip

Here ye go Salmonking - finally got Mrs Tip to agree to doing her 'bit' for the forum ...... "get them posted, get them posted, get them posted for the lads .......get them po-o-osted for the lads". A couple of pics from a forum 'meet' - Nith, Barjarg Beat September 07. Hosted by the Nith chapter of the Hell's Anglers. More pics to follow - hopefully correctly resized to avoid the scrolling hassle Salmondan - a guid fisher and a guid bloke - a lesson to us all. Annan Angler and Hornet flog the pool tail. As you can see neither lads are very tall. salmonking - determined and ever-ready. Erect and assuming an expectant pose. Always good to have a bit of eye candy on the watter. Respect SK

Hi IJ, You just went to the bottom of my list, one up from Mike (A/A) LOL. Sorry to disappoint you but it was only my fellow TIC supporter who was given the pleasure of seeing the hallowed turf. Mike refused to sink his nashers into the slice which had Bo Bo's gonna get you on it that was so kindly brought by Rob. Nice surprise ;D. Incidentally going to Castle Greyskull would have ruined a perfectly gid day and the thought of doing so is going to put me aff ma tee, so thanks for that . Cheers Hornet
