Mike - see you included Ebro, Spain, in your list Catfish? Horrible slimy beasts, but as I have only caught a few, biggest ~36lbs - a mere French 'baby', I'm keen to at least try for a week on the famous Ebro for one of these arm-wrenching battles with perhaps a 100lber+, & that's one of the places to go. I have also fished in the past for barbel (majestic fish), tench, bream, roach, rudd, bleak, chub, grayling, pike, carp (to 51.5lbs), gudgeon, eels, sailfish, bonefish, bonita, barracuda, permit, ..... However, the wels catfish can really fight hard, so, may yet give it a proper go sometime. Mike

If I had the chance to go after another type of river fish, I think it would be for sturgeon in the Fraser River.
John Wilson has caught some enormous fish from the Fraser, and although very wide, it looks like an interesting river. I believe it has enormous runs ( in the millions) of salmon as well.
