You have won the piscatorial lottery and the prize is one of two adjoining beats, well located ,on a good salmon river. They have never been fished and no records are available. All things are equal except the following: beat 1 consists totally of in a fly fishing context high water pools, beat 2, again in a fly context consists totally of low water pools .
Which one will you choose?

For me it would be the low water one. I started my salmon fishing on small rivers where you were much closer to the fish and I still enjoy the low water fishing more than the almost chuck it and chance it tactics often employed in high water. It is simply more challenging and I find more rewarding.

Interesting concept there lamson ! - and a difficult one to boot. I assume that access to a long range rainfall forecast is forbidden ?
Big rivers - Beat 2 (low) - why ? ... because even in low water you will get a movement of clean fish into the system.
Small (spate) rivers - Beat 1 (high) - why ? ...... cos you would be "sweengin for rain" to bring fish in and chances are your gonna be fishing pool tails on a big but rapidly falling water thats "stappit fu wi fush".
When the water has dropped back, jump in the motor and get down to Beat 2 PDQ.
