Hi All, I've FINALLY got myself booked out on the river, tomo (b'day treat from daughter and prospective son-i-law) But how should I approach the day? Do I treat it as late summer tactics, get there first light and last knockings? or early back end? middle of the day, og/blk/yel flies? Or.. a bit of both? Cheers
I'd get there early and leave after dark and fish all the time in between! Which river is it? What are the water levels like at the moment? The temperature is due to be unseasonably high tomorrow (and for the next few days) but I can't see any disadvantage at this time of year for fishing the whole way through (unless your river is very low). I've had a few fish in the last couple of weeks and they've taken at very different times of the day. I believe that it's all about showing your fly to as many fish as possible so that the daft one can take it. Good luck, I hope you enjoy your day.
Personally I still go for the early start and finish at last light David , as I still think these are good times to pick up fish at this time of the year. Once the Temps drop though and the first signs of frost appear I'm not in such a rush to get started, but will still be a t the water first light As for tactics. Given decent water levels a selection of Flee's size 7 - 11 along with some tubes 1/2" - 1" fished off Inty or sinking tips should suffice.
