If you are familiar with the Door's say that to yourself to the tune of "When the music's over", for me it catches the portent of the end looming of another migratory fishy's season , it's okay though no need for the blade and warm bath just yet.
So in the off season what do you do? For me it's a little Grayling fishing , some walking and cycling and oh yes The Doors and others of that and similar ilk.
regards
Lamson

I spend the Winter months leaping about over rocks, schlepping gear to deserted and wonderful beaches, standing shoulder to shoulder with strangers on a packed pier after a good blow -all in the name of COD. Catch very few though, nowt left! And they're after charging us for the privelidge. Costs a bomb as well, about a quid a cast if you're not collecting your own bait.
Apologies for venting here -
What I meant to say was I go fishing in the off season, with my mate Geordie.

Grayling keep me sane (joke) thriught the winter months ,gets me out of London acouple of sundays a month . The days I run near Hungerford have been going for 5/6 years now ,lots of old lags turn up and we make new friends every year . Nigel the beat owner says he knows we are there from the gales of laughter at lunch time !

Pike and Zander fishing in the local canal, walking the surrounding cotswold countryside(from and to pubs mostly, got to support the local trade) and I think I'm going to be joining the lovely Kay on cycle rides too. Open fires, good ale, and a classic film on TV. Also going to be starting a new facet to the sport, fly tying. Well with work and the trials of life in general, that should keep me occupied for a few months.

Still have a few days fishing planned yet.
Last winter my daughter and I both learned to snowboard, so we are hoping for a cold and snowy winter up here so we can plug school & work and go sliding at Cairngorm or Nevis Range. Its a bit like salmon fishing in that you really need to make the most of any opportunities when conditions are good. Also plan to get out to a few gigs depending on who's playing. So far, planning to see Gravenhurst & Gogol Bordello

Lay down the rod and pick up the gun, there are two months pheasant shooting and three months pigeon shooting to be worked in with the start of the 08 Tweed salmon season. To be sure it's a hard, hard old life.
