I wonder if it's anything to do with moles or mole catchers ? How does that work? The mole catcher makes it nice and warm at the hole mouth then when the mole pops out to sunbathe the mole catcher grabs him! Yes something like that. The mole catcher perhaps urinates, or pours some hot Bovril, into and around the rim of the hole. Mr Mole is attracted upwards by the descending scent and heat, pops his head above the parapet where a nippy wee terrier is sitting in readiness - now I come to think about it, it was obvious all along.

After a morning of brewing Bovril I eventually got the shot you have been waiting for. Where's my Bovril?

Andy, I have been told that a similar exercise can be done with human tapeworms - but that's another story and involves 2 bricks rather than a dog.

If there any evidence of rabbit holes nearby, I would agree it certainly looks like a bolt hole to me. Welcome to the forum Balvenie. You could be right with the rabbit bolt hole. P.S I hope Your forum name might suggest you have a wee stock pile of my favourite drink. If so! You and me will get on just dandy. Thank you for the welcome Kenny. Me have a wee stock pile of Balvenie ;D It never seems to last very long in here, think the bottles are bad for leaking Cheers, Andy
