How bad are Guide Le Cie rods ? in the last five months I have wittnessed 4 go through the middle , top section and middlesec. (includeing my own) how have you found their customer service ? I waited three months for a replacement top section .I would be interested in other peoples experiences, My faith in them is rapidly going to the dogs.

Can not comment on the Le Cie. In fact most people seem to rave about them. However what I have heard alleged, is that Guideline are not an efficient company to deal with (polite version). I could be wrong but I don't think a "Well known shop in Penrith"sells them any more. I was also In "A well known shop in Lancaster", and overheard a telephone conversation with a customer being told to try elsewhere if they really wanted a Guideline rod as they had not had stock for months! It is not the retailer holding you up, but the manufacturer. ATB Robbie

There was a lpxe with a a damaged ferrule discussed on the old sff ( once upon a time), eventually fixed under warranty, damage attributed to not taping the joint by Guideline. Other than that these are the first I've heard of.
Compromised after sales is always a likely casualty when made in the far east , fast growing co , I think no specific UK distributor. Wait till replacement rings are needed, I bet sourcing originals will be challenging.
Contrast to B&W when I recently damaged some rings . Phone call to B&W , few days later , necessary thread and rings , payment , "send a cheque when they arrive please". N o bias I own and like both.

Because of European laws a manufacturer can not stipulate how much a retailer should charge for a rod, and therefore it can not stop a retailer from discounting its rods.
However, a manufacturer can experience stock problems with the result that certain retailers may hardly ever get any stock ...hint, hint, hint !
Suggest you call retailers who sell nearer "RRP", hint, hint, hint!

The reason they have stock left is because they try to sell at RRP. Hint Hint Hint

Are these the rods which are getting a good report on one of the other forums?

Probably, they're is as much agreement about them being decent rods as anything else.

............. in the last five months I have wittnessed 4 go through the middle , top section and middlesec. (includeing my own) ........ That's interesting - where exactly did they break? I repaired one of these rods for a member of SFF but that had broken when he slipped, the male ferrule had sheared off flush with the top section. Although they obviously have a well designed taper, the blank manufacture seemed to be of only average quality to me. Dave.
