I was plugging for bass in the Menai straits near Anglesey on Monday evening when I hooked a very lively fish, which turned out to be a bright 2lb sea trout. I've heard they are caught quite often by bass anglers as there are a few game rivers emptying into the straits...................might be worth a go with the fly rod sometime.

I have a video of fly fishing for bass in Norway. The technique used was stripping minnows at very high speed on sinking lines. Looks like a lot of hard work but a good way to get some tasty fish. I bought a saltwater fly rod in the winter sales (9ft 7wt LPXe RSV2) and I am hoping to try it out later this year. I have heard that most of the sea bass you get in restaurants is farmed so it would be good to get some fresh ones out of the sea:)

Most of the sea bass in supermarkets in the UK comes from a fish farm in Greece, and there's a bass fish farm on Anglesey near to Penmon, so I'm always sceptical when I see "fresh Anglesey bass" on the menu locally

A mistake from yesterday. This fish was unlucky because the lead weight got stuck in the swell zone when I tried to get it out of the water. It was well battered when I eventually freed the lead (and dead). It weighed 3lb 3oz without a head or guts. As can be seen, there are sea lice problems in West Loch Roag at the moment although the lack of condition was probably due to either going to sea late and/or a lack of feeding due to the low sea temperature.

Nice fish Fredo, I rarely see sea trout in Wales with that many lice, but many years ago I caught a small one that was covered in them for some reason.
