I got a GoPro hero 4 so the pressure is on now to get something to show to prove to the wife that I sometimes catch something when I go fishing. So roll on the new season might give it an outing on the Helmsdale before I return to work.

Wont know til I get back from Bulgaria. Saw some seriously huge apples in the village shop this evening - thats how exciting a time I'm having just now. Having said that, we are supposed to be slaughtering a pig tomorrow night followed by much merrymaking.

I was fortunate enough that Santa brought me a 15ft Mackenzie shooting head rod and renewed my annual subscription to the S&TA. Was more than happy with that. Will look forward to trying out my new rod on the 16th Jan.

For my own part the only fishing related item that came to me at Xmas was an AFS Hover/Sink1 Shooting head. Incidentally I have an AFS Shooting Head 10/11 in sink3/4(640grains and 41gms and used only once) which I am unlikely to use again if anyone on here has a use for it. Happy to let it go for £40 including postage.

Patagonia Rio Gallegos Zip Waders, Simms jacket, vest & cap, Hardy Marksman T 14' rod and I threw an LTS reel in there too! All I need is a new line for it. Roll on the start of the season!

I didn't get any fishing stuff, but my daughter gave me a one-year subscription to Farson Digital Watercams.
At first I didn't regard it as a Christmas present (no wrapping paper, just a note and a card) but I was surprised at how clear the pictures are with all the adverts removed. And I see that some of her gift went to support AST conservation work at sea. Nice present for an obsessional fly fisherman who depends on the water level being 'just so'!
Maybe next year I'll get that Perfect reel!

I got two books - one new - Terminal Chancer - hope it's a laugh and the other an old one - P.D.Malloch - Life & habits of salmon and sea-trout and other freshwater fish - to remind/tease me about how good it was. In 1969 ~95000 Tay salmon & grilse were declared taken by net & coble, the rod catch looks about 9000 too, last big year for nets was 1989 - about 45000. In 1908 Malloch wrote "the average weight of the heaviest salmon taken in nets for last 14 years is 60lb 2oz's" Another highlight is picture of 71lb salmon caught 21/6/1870 in nets, length 52inches, girth 32inches - what do the c&r scales make of that? Dream on - less than 3 weeks to go!

The net returns are from a copy of Tay catch returns 1952-1998 graph - not from book

A Patagonia SST, will get to test it next month when fishing wi Kenny Gonna look a right pair of chookies!! Same bunnet Same jacket Same boots lol Canny afford Simms waders right enough! Patagonia appear to be offering up to Simms on the Jacket and Wader front, I am undecided until my "mole" goes to NY and orders some at US prices. And also until I ask Diver Dave his opinions. Tried on Visions Kura today - the feet are too big - = my legs are too short but my middle is too large for the feet ! I am n shape - round is a shape right ! I may have to go for a Diver Dave special. Malcolm
