Fishery manager on Lochlane & Laggan beat on the Earn has been made redundant, season rods have been told they can no longer fish there, what next? Following the recent AGM the management company running the beat came up with the idea that nobody needs to manage the fishing. The season rods, most of whom have been fishing the beat for over 20yrs and contribute to the majority of the yearly catches were told they couldn't fish there anymore. The board and remaining timeshares obviously don't realise that the value of there fishing will now drop significantly. Looks like things on this beat are on a downward spiral. No thought about a mans livelihood.

Sorry to hear that. John Young is a decent guy and a fine fisher.

Doesn't sound too good Blackie. It's been a while since I took a day rod there, 2003 I think. Nice water, and very helpful fishery manager. I wonder what the thinking behind getting rid of the fishery manager and season rods is? Impending sale?

Sad to hear about John losing his "way of life" as he put his heart and sole into it. Fished with John for many years on various beats and always found him to have the good of the Earn at heart. Bob

In my opinion it certainly sounds like the management committee have something planned and I don't think it'll benefit the river. Possible devaluation of the timeshares and then buy them up themselves.

Has anyone heard anymore about this. Know that John is devastated and has been treated very badly. Bob

Just wondering if anyone had heard anymore about what is happening about the fishing. Speaking to John he is cut up the way this has been handled. Bob

Taken from the terms and conditions for the beat-
Ghillie Service: There is no Lochlane & Laggan operated Ghillie Service. Fishers are entitled to make their own arrangement if they would like to use a ghillie, but consideration has to be given by the Fisher to ensure that any such service has the correct insurance cover. Fishers are totally responsible for any of their ghillies they invite onto the river. Lochlane & Laggan Fishing's, and Lochlane and Laggan Ltd will have no responsibility for the actions of the fishers ghillie or their associated service.
From the website, this guy is the contact- Alex Brundrett
Looks to me like releasing J Young was a cost cutting exercise.

John was always working on the river to improve his guests chances, cutting trees, strimming etc. Will not take long for it to revert back to jungle. Wonder what this holds for others jobs on the other rivers. Bob
