I caught this fish in the River Doon today. It was a well coloured 6-7lb cock which had a white mark on its head. It looked like an old wound as it was healed over. Any suggestions what could have caused it? Otherwise the fish was in very good condition and gave a very good accounts of itself. Builnacraig

Fungus where the fish was handled by someone else releasing the fish.

There must be a hell of a lot of fish that have been released this year,,,,covered in fungus,,,id say because of the sudden drop in water temp,,,,udn.

Like Willie Gunn I thought it was maybe old damage from a previous encounter. The mark was not infected so I don't think there is any disease there. Maybe it was from damage caused by the leader during previous contact with an angler?
The fish was a fit as a fiddle and was otherwise very healthy.
