I found this interesting comment in the Inverness Angling Club Newsletter. www.invernessanglingclub.co.uk/rules/news.htm#nessmonsterDeep wading can kill fish! The conservation of salmon is taking a very high priority as fears continue over the health of stocks in our river and loch systems. Returning fish is a proven way of maintaining and enhancing stocks, but other simple measures can be just as important. With salmon spawning later and later, deep wading could have a very serious impact on young fish still on the redds. So think about the future of our salmon. Try not to deep wade until well into the Ness season in August. Even then, ask yourself if you really have to wade so deep. All the fish are not necessarily on the other side of the river! Fishind0, I hope your club does not mind the quote, I did show the source. salmo

Salmo you are quite right.
The Ness has no spawning burns and is 100% main river spawning, there for making it vital not to wade over reds in the early season.
On Nesscastle we do not wade near the reds until well after the eggs have hatched (normally May time).

fishingd0,
I should also add that I was very impressed with the quality of information on the Inverness Angling Club site.
