With a recent recorded catch from reporting beats of 244 salmon, along with a bumper September catch, does this make Tweed the premier salmon river in Great Britain. Not necessarily good news for those who live in its catchment area and manage to scrape the odd day on a river which lacks association salmon water in the bottom, lower and middle reaches?

I guess that would depend on what you use to class it as premier. If you base that on catch returns alone then yes it would be the premier river in Great Britain. Personally I would sooner have a prime time day on the Spey than on the Tweed.

Yes I would have to go for the Spey every time.
Lots of fish is one thing, but when you have the character and setting of the Spey it would be very hard to beat.
In saying that, I am fishing boleside in November and am very much looking forward to it.

Well salmon king like other posters on this thread I really like to be heading north of Perth on the A9 with the intention of fishing. My own favourite bit of water with the risk of being boring is the Forres Association water on the Findhorn. Not big enough to be intimidating every pool is a delight. Unfortunately the Findhorn salmon have yet to find my unfailable fly attractive.

Not quite the same quality of landscape as the Spey, especially on the lower part of the beat where there is a public park area. Having said that, my favourite pools, Hart and Glenmayne, are on the lower beat. By the way, ask the gillie Nigel if he's "having a good backend" - I'd be interested in hearing his reply! ;D
