Hi guy's Gonna makin a trip out that way sometime soon, hopefully around Nov/Dec.My wife is from Glasgow,so that will be our base for visiting family(rivers) ;)I see that alot of the waters are private,is there anywhere for public fishing and if so are they good stretches to fish. We'll be renting a car so travel is not to big a concern,as were used to driving hours to get anywhere overhere.Where do you think our best bet would be? I've also got a 11'7'' meiser rod with loop classic reel shorthead line and around 150 yards backing. Will this set up work for me out there ? or will it be undersized? Thanks for any info you guys can offer up. Jim.

Hi Jim, if its Nov/Dec you could be out of luck as most river systems are closed by then. The tweed might be open in november not too sure as i have never fished there, but i'm sure some of the more experienced hands on here will let you know.

I was thinking that Jackfish and also Scotland in December does not have much daylight.... why not find out when the best fishing time is and plan the trip around then Also you might want to some sightseeing and other outdoor activities. Best weather is traditionally May or September salmo

By the sounds of it we're spendin a couple days at Loch Lomond,is there any fishin to be had there? or should I just leave the gear at home and not chance the airlines losing all my gear? Thanks again Jim

You can fish for pike in Loch Lomand at that time of the year.

Although Lomond does have the pike in reasonable numbers, there are other coarse fish which can be targetted, weather permitting.
The most significant larger fish species that can be tackled at the end of the year remains the pike - and good sport can be had by dead-baiting and spinning with lures & plugs.

Hi JStroke,
I think if the missus has you coming over in December then river fishing will be oot the window as they say.
Glasgow and it's surroundings has plenty of Rainbow fisheries that would offer excellent sport for your 11ftr so you may want to consider that.
If you want a list of where etc then give me a PM.
Cheers

You may also be able to fish for grayling, not sure if many rivers up that way have any but I do know the Tummel possibly the Tay and the Annan too all have big grayling and are not too far a drive from Glasgow.
Hope this is of some help.
