Was sure we had an existing thread on this but can't find it so here goes....
Have bought a new rod Hardy Demon 15' and though I didn't tape the last one 15' Norway, I'm wondering if I should tape this one...questions:
Do people with multiple rods tape some rods and not others? or.. Do people either tape everything or nothing (i.e. all rods, or no rods) they own? If taping is there a right and wrong way to do this?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Nolon, Taping the spigots certainly strenghens the joints but does often leave witness marks, which affects the cosmetics of the rod. If you wish your fishing rod to be a fishing rod and not a work of art, or something you intend trading-in or selling on, then get the tape on. It will give you greater peace of mind. Ken Walker of B&W recommends taping the joints and that's good enough for me. Hardy recommend that you don't tape their rods, or certainly used to, perpahs due to damage of the cosmetics or perhaps, they are confident of the spigots not rotating during speycasting. I'm confident that for overhead casting that they would remain in place, however due to the rotational forces incurred whilst speycasting, most spigots would tend to move slightly. Why did you downgrade to a Hardy anyway...........

Nolon, Don't tape your rod just add a small amount of candle wax to the spigots and ferrules. I have never had a problem from my British built rod Cheers

The spigots were worn smooth so rubbed some candle wax onto them. Certainly did the job and I was amazed at how effective it was. However I still tape up the rod. ;D Tape the butt end - tape the tip end (would that be the ferrules?) - then tape the joint Using/overlapping the tape that has already been put on. If I need to dismantle the rod then it is only the tape on the joint that is removed. hf

Thanks for the advice chaps. Think I will try both wax and tape just to be sure & thanks for the tip on technique HF. Jock, I downgraded after having a shot of a few H rods which I was surprised to find were far easier to bend and therefore feel the load than my setup. Felt like 1/10th of the work so looking forward to my first outing on the Tay this weekend. Will bring the Demon up at some point so you can show me how its meant to be done . Thanks again, Nolon.

Have a great day and we'll sort out a date for you to come up for a cast once the Grue has gone.

Jock - I will hold you to that I'm assuming any electrical insulating tape will do or should I be using something that wont stretch, as I think insulating does?
