I was just wondering how all you piscators are coping with the keek weather we are experienceing just now. Here on the Tweed system it has been hopeless, high water day after day and not a chance of a cast.We have had to cancel all our days so far in August much to the disgust of a lot of clients! So come on what are you getting up to if there;s naye fushin.

Just plain ol' working, tying a few flees, & watching the dismal rivers reports! Mike

Following the recent downpour, I left the river at 3pm and spent the remainder of the aftenoon trying to negotiate a deal on a Freelander 2. Has already involved the promise of quite a few evenings fishing over the next '10 years' and will obviously affect the thickness of the mattress dramatically but so far very promising. I think my wife may well wish that it hadn't rained when she finds out...........

The Conwy has been up and down like a yoyo since early August. It's killed off the sea trout fishing but the high water has encouraged the salmon to run about 3 weeks earlier than usual. Despite all the high water, the river usually drops and clears within 24 hours. Good numbers of silver fish have run through, whereas these fish often linger in the tidal beats and have coloured up by the time they reach the middle river. The initial run seems to have gone through, just the odd fish is coming through at the moment. The forecast over the BH is looking fairly dry for N Wales, but beyond Monday there's more rain on the way.

Don't tell me Spey gillies are suffereing from the credit crunch. Are the Meisers going cheap Jock? ;D You'll need more than a Meiser to sort out your technique John.............. ;D ;D Although having said that you may be able to patent the 'induced take casting technique' but my guess is that there are a fair number of registered instructors out there who have already mastered it.............. Wish mine would land in a heap sometimes...........

Jock, next time I visit the Spey I'll happily demonstrate the 'controlled heap' technique.
A valuable addition to the armoury of all serious fly fishermen. ;D

Is that called the "spaghetti" casting technique or pasta-casta perhaps? ;D salmo I think it may be similar to either the Ogopogo cast, or the Camo cast - from Dana on Speypages - but some may call it the 'canny' cast. Maybe just cannae cast! ;D Mike
