Not restricted to salmon fishing, if you're an all rounder.
Difficult choice and I suppose much depends on where you fish.
I'm torn between June/July for sea trout and September/October for salmon, but April/May are great months as well - certainly for trips to Scotland
I've gone for July, with September a very close second. It would have been May if we had more salmon down here.

I like May, the fish are in superb condition, of a good agerage size and the water has warmed up a bit so they fight harder than in in cold water of early spring.

Naw, its me. Every month is my favourite month - for varying reasons. Jan - Opening of the Tay season. Feb - Fishing with snow on the banks - something magical about that. Mar - Start of the first real runs of spring fish on most of the major rivers. April - Spring is springing up everywhere and the sap riseth. May - A bit of warmth in the air - chance of an early or late cast before / after work. June - Late nights / early mornings. Sea trout fishing becomes a reality. July - All nighters. August - Grilse just wanna have fun. September - The back end mentality starts to kick in. October - Should be the best month generally. November - A real treat to get a cast so late in the year. I voted December - ye get yer life back for a few weeks, the missus has less cause to mump and a wee visit from Santa is just round the corner ....... if ye've been good that is. STip

STip I like it...I think my fishing this year is going to be indicative of what I can do the next few years based on work etc so not disimilar to the above. I had a great time in Jan/Feb with high water and snow this year trying different techniques - lots of fish about and interesting to watch on the Tay with both a mix of a late tune of fish spawning and also early run springers and also baggots etc /varying water heats and almost unfishable beats depending on where you went. Didnt land anything but had several touches and some great sport. April/May - landed my first fish of the season and some bank holidays - yippee July/Aug - can get in some evening and sea trout fishing after returning from the big smoke....if you get the right conditions and are no a big feartie its great (although getting chased by a bull at 1AM whilst carrying 2 rods and wearing waders isnt much fun!!) Oct - trying to cram in as much fishing as possible. Nov/Dec - getting invited to go fishing for the hatchery was an honour and a great way of kepeing the eye/arm in....and also great for tying up your favourite flee patterns!

May on Speyside, quality of the fish, the beautiful surroundings and wildlife bursting into life.
Then again every month you can fish is a good month ;D

January is the month I have voted for. It would have to be a bright, clear, crisp winters day though without a wind howling in. (these are fairly common in the far North ) Probably because it is the start of the fishing season again and there is the opportunity to get outside once more and onto the riverbank with a rod. Also, for moi, it is an oasis in the dark winters night as our river doesn't open until April...hmm!! Best month has usually been August. (Favourite time of day early morning - maybe another thread and vote hf

October,November,December and Junuary all had a certain appeal but I'd just have to go for April/May simply for the quality of fish and the fantastic colours of the surrounding countryside.
Having travelled the world for many years, there is nowhere quite like Speyside in May. With an average size of 10-12lbs caught mainly on floating lines, these fish are pretty special and the air temperature is normally just perfect for a celebratory dram or three.
