The Trout and Salmon Tweed Angling Fair is on May 3rd and 4th at Kelso. Well worth a visit. www.tweedanglingfair.co.uk. The World record was broken in the International Speycasting Championship last year 73+yds on the Junction Pool. Believe this has recently been broken in Ireland, anyone know any details?

I'm sure (don't quote me) it was broken by Gerard Downey (Ireland) at the loughs agency competition last month with 74 yards . It's a big cast but hopefully it will be broken again by one of our scottish boys (no affence ;D). Will any members be going down/up/over to the Tweed Angling Fair ? Cheers Ryan

Went to the Tweed Angling Fair today for the first time. Smaller event than I expected but I got a lot out of it. There was a fly tying demo by Mr Frodin, which was impressive, he is very logical in his approach to fly design. Lots of other fly tyers present demonstrating everything from coneheads to fully dressed salmon flies, lots of tips available if you got chatting.
There were several casting demo's by the big names. Scott Mackenzie was good and he has a warm manner in his commentary. He finished with a couple overhead casts with the big rod which went about 45/50 yards with very little effort, very impressive.
I took advantage of the twenty minute casting lessons with one of the instructors (£10) from which I learn't a lot. That was my proper tuition and we covered anchor placement when single and double spey casting. Also tried the Circle C cast which is an alternative to the roll cast prior to single spey. I liked it but it took a bit of getting used too. I also now know what a "bloody-L" is. Good value for £10!
There was a good selection of rods which you could try on the grass if you asked. I tried a Sage Z-axis 12'6" rod with Hardy Mach 2 line, that was a nice combo. If only I had £675 spare!
Watched the Spey casting final. The wind was strong, upstream and into the casters right shoulder so not good conditions. I don't know the results but Gordon Armstrong looked to have won it. His casts were going out like an arrow, although the wind seemed to drop during his 3 minutes. All the finalist were very impressive casters. There were even a couple salmon showing in the Junction pool.First time I have seen the Junction Pool. It looked good today, with a distinct current, although there was a fair bit of water in the river.
I even had a wee blether with Willie Gunn, who was on the Carron stand. He is actually quite a nice fellow!

Correct Gordon was first, but the star was young Ryan who was third impressive for a young lad of 16.

Congrats to the winner and to all other finalists. Amazing with the young guy. Seem there some real competition for Gordon and Downey in the future.
Does anyone have the complete result list?

Well done to Gordon & Ryan. Did any other forum members go? Cheers Hornet I will echo the congratulations to not only the winners, but also all those who took part in the competitions. I was, unfortunately, unable to get to the Tweed show for this year, due to work commitments over the entire weekend, but it seems a date to try to keep the diary clear for in future years, not only to try out new stuff & rub shoulders with some of the famous names, but more importantly to meet some (or many) of the forum members here. One small positive side effect of not being able to go was that the direction of travel for the £££ was into the wallet, rather than the other way at the weekend!!! Mike

The fly tying demonstrators were very impressive!!
