As a newbie I was wondering what people recommend for their leaders and if they prefer color or neutral? I used neutral seaguar but find it gets damaged too damn easy and busts.

Thank you for that. Was wondering if color made any difference to your chances of attracting the salmon to hook-up?

I prefer a clear leader material generally. One time a coloured leader material can be an advantage is when fishing in bright sunny conditions. In these conditions a dark, matt finished leader material such as Maxima Chameleon can be an advantage. It simply does not reflect light to the same extent as lighter and/or glossier leader material. I think that the glint of light off the leader can put fish off.

It also matters what type of water you are fishing too.
For example, peaty water will be OK for coloured & clear leaders, whereas I would tend to agree with Graham that, especially in ultraclear & usually low water with brighter sunlight, the glossy clear leaders such as Seaguar clear could put the fish off, as they may be a bit shy anyway.
In the spring, with colder higher water flows, and more aggressive fish, I'm not convinced that it matters too much what you use in terms of colour/clear leader.
I will be trying out Maxima ultragreen line fore my salmon fly fishing, and the new Yo-Zuri lines this year, the first obviously in a lightish green, the Yo-Zuri in either clear or smoke.
What do other forum members think they will use?

Maxima ultra green has yet to do anything to dent confidence, so I'll stick with it, although I can see me giving the Yogi Bear stuff a go at some point.
