Many thanks for advice posted here. My dreams of catching a salmon on the fly are a couple of steps closer - Santa reads the forums and went and bought me this (cash) . Most of my fishing will be on The Wear 13ft Shakespeare Oracle Rod Shakespeare Perfluogerr (?) Reel Snowbee 10wt 1D floater line Selection of polyleaders Flys - Multiple Quids each!!! so will be getting the cheap vice out and sourcing some quality materials and invaluable advice instead. Fower pund a fly I bought my kit from my local tackle dealer as well with fantastic advice to boot - he agreed with advice given here ;D I made a serious effort not buy on-line. Frasers Gateshead was the shop. I have not got a single clue how to cast the fella! I can comfortably cast a single hander overhead - no idea about proper rollcasting, never speyed (ouch) Where could I get some lessons I live in Washington (UK)

Hi Charlie - delighted that, through the forum, you have "been helped" ....... praise the lord ! ...... or in this case Salmo for getting '74 together. There are bound to be good casting instructors down your way if you search around. Don't know much about the river Wear but the kit you have described sounds suitable for that size of river and offers excellent value for money - especially the Pflueger reel.

Charliethompson. Excuse my lack of intelligence mate....I am Welsh. ;D But!.....whats "Fower pund a fly"...Mean ?. Thick-o. DAZ. Four Pounds per fly! Mike PS you should be getting the very best of quality @ that price, IMHO. Although setting up with even some basic materials seems to cost quite a bit, the actual meterials costs for tying flies on top hooks is still well under £1 (retail). M

Hi Daz. "Fower pund a fly" translates roughly into "Four pounds a flee". I assume that is what the laddie is getting fleeced for. Charlie - go here for quality flee's at realistic prices ......... www.graysofkilsyth.com/

Most ghillies are very good casters and they will teach some watercraft and fly choice at the same time. Thereafter you can look up APGAI and find an instructor for your area. These guys will charge a fair bit but the instruction will pay off. The main element for success is that you are willing to practice. salmo.

Hi Charlie, These 2 gentlemen are both based in Carlisle and have access to some nice stretches of the Eden. ( Probably 50 miles from you on the A69) Both are well known and respected AAGPAI members and one of them, Glyn Freeman, can teach fly tying to a high standard. I have used them both and can not fault them. In fact I highly recommend them. www.bordergameangling.co.uk/www.cumbriaflyfishing.co.uk/Hope this helps All the best Robbie
