Here is a daft question someone from the distillery glens might be able to answer. What would you get in the way of an alcoholic beverage if you distilled a gallon of beer? Would it be drinkable, or poisonous without spending ten years in an oak cask? Often wondered about that although it has never kept me awake at night.

I thought that a gallon of beer is what is 'distilled' in the stomach of the average UK beer drinker in a session, and what you get after such 'distillation' I certainly wouldn't want to drink! ;D ;D

Helpfull answer speducer now I wont be able to sleep tonight. I suppose if your were caught distilling it what you would get would be 5 years min. Well might as well but the copper coil and the gas burner back in the shed. tweedsider

I'm sure that there are some amateur distillers out there (sshhh, don't mention any names, you never know who may be looking in!! ), and they may even provide some useful information. I never got past making ginger beer and the odd gallon of wine myself, but I do like the odd tipple of the amber nectar from the glens. Mike

Maybe think about a forum 'away day' at some point during the close season for the purposes of sampling various members DIY concoctions - I would suggest somewhere around the area of the public lavvies on the North Inch, Perth (happy to supply the sawdust and shovel) - that way we can all have a bash at Czech nymphing for grayling as an added attraction. ;D Failing this, maybe something similar to the 'line pool' on the SFF where members can swap or try out samples from each other. Just an idea
