I have just returned from a truly magical trip to West Iceland in fabulous(for Iceland) weather conditions with three fellow Scots anglers. Rather than try to post photos on here ( something which I have never managed successfully) I have posted a dropbox web link to my photos and videos. These are unedited and I apologise in advance for any bad language on the videos ( it was generally pretty restrained really). The videos still to be processed from my companion's gopro camera are apparently quite stunning but are still to be edited and produced for public viewing. Our trip was organised by Stefan and Harpa of Iceland Outfitters whom I would happily recommend if you are planning a trip to Iceland. They run a highly personal professional and efficient service for anglers. We fished 2.5 days for 4 rods fully guided in the western highlands, close to the second biggest icefield in Iceland, and stayed in fairly basic self catering accommodation without electricity or wifi and outside toilets. Our guides did all the cooking. The scenery was stunning and we landed about 40 trout up to 4lbs and were broken by some 'brutes of trout'. We also caught an odd char. We then moved over to the luxury lodge at Laxa in Dolum where we enjoyed 3.5 days of guided salmon fishing on a rod share for 2 rods and landed over 20 salmon(mainly grilse) and lost as many. The most successful method was the micro hitch which is a most exciting and visually rewarding method of catching salmon. I hope you enjoy the photo and video album. Some great pics there Mel. Not to mention some bonnie looking fish. Loved the red roof shack. I wouldn't imagine the rivers would suffer much from leaf problems in the back-end. Thanks for posting.
