Probably the Welsh Dee in March, unless I'm daft enough to try the Tweed in February.

Probably the Dee on the 2nd February. Tried the Tay last January and the fish were still spawning at that time, no inclination to repeat that.

The Mighty Tay - 0pening day as has been the case for donkey's. However, as Graham say's, the spawning process will still be active and fishers should bear this in mind at all times - avoid fishing "kelty hole" - barbless - careful wading - no 'bait' (obviously) - extra careful handling - responsible fishing generally !. For me, the opening 8 weeks are more social occasions with a chance to assess any winter flood damage, chew the fat with the die hards and have an occasional 'throw'. A fair percentage of time will be spent looking at a rising river no doubt. I have stated this before but really, spawning fish might benefit from the Tay opening on March 1st IMHO as, in a normal year, we are usually well into March before the 'spring run' starts in earnest - what spring run there might be ....... but thats another thread. regards to all STip

I will probably have my first cast of the season on the 'Fed water on the Lower Tyne some time in Feb.
Not a great chance of a springer but will be nice to be on the river again.

My first out will be, hopefully, Spey in February.
Although only ever fished it for 3 days back when Moses was a boy, I have always hankered to fish it properly, and thoroughly.

Opening day on the Spey - I keep a rod back for my own use.
Also hoping to fish the Dee for the first time later in the Spring with a few forum guys.

The Spey, early March.
May get out locally around the same time, but only to help with bank clearing etc.

Will be up on the Spey in February, but may have a trip to the Dee in the opening week if there are rods available.
