I think fishing in the dark for seat trout is the way to go just now in these low water conditions, a fair few 2 and 3 punners from the Dee this past week. One seat trout the only fish re[ported from the Esk, sounds grim, though some beats had rods available so less folk fishing.

Hearing of a major slurry leak into the North Esk, folks fishing being cancelled due to the pollution, sounds dreadful.

I wonder if anybody will be brought to task, for it...I doubt it.

One of the lads lives near the river he found it and reported it, no show from SEPA or the Esk trust, he said it was if no one wants to know, he found the split tank that had leaked into the river.

SEPA have been on the scene and some live fish have been spotted, I guess with no rain to flush the muck out, the effects could linger for a while?

Very few about due to no water, but I see a couple of small Grilse have been reported along with a few Sea Trout, nothing from either Esk rivers is disappointing.

Not heard anything, they know where it came from though, but it was not slurry. What makes matters worse is the pitiful low water levels with several river below normal summer level, the South Esk at Brechin is minus 1 inch, that means below the roab bridge you could probably cross the river in flip flops without getting you feet wet. Another worry is the size of grilse being reported from the Dee, two at 3lb each does not sound like they found any good feeding over winter.

Thanks for the update. Yes, the grilse do seem rather small. As you say probably no feeding well, at sea.

Very often the first of the grilse to arrive are the wee 2 to 3lb ones, so nothing unusual there.

35 Sea Trout and counting on the Dee, only 9 Salmon, but that is fair fishing in these woeful conditions, with no rain forecast until next weekend Salmon are going to be tough to catch. Some fresh Salmon have been seen in the Esks, but only a handful of Sea Trout caught, 4 lb being the best. What we need to do is start a well known English rain dance, you get 6 six pieces of wood and knock them into the ground balance some bits of wood called bails on top of them and get 22 blokes dressed in white to chuck a ball about and try and hit it with a lump of willow, works every time.

Looks like a lot of the fish, on the Tay, are hanging around Islamouth, 17 for the week. Watch then dissappear up the Isla once the river gets a flush of fresh water.

Well a drought and high temperatures didn't make for a lot of Salmon, but the Sea Trout are showing well on the Dee, I drove over the Cairn O'Mount to have a look at the river at Aboyne and below, very, very low water, but 10 Salmon with fish of 8-10lb along with Grilse and 43 Sea Trout up to 4 lbs is not a bad return in those conditions. The Esks were not so good 1 Salmon from Kinnaber on Saturday, that too looked low when I drove over the bridge, but Neil managed to find sprinkling of Sea Trout on the Gallery beat and a couple were caught on the Southie too. The Tay had a fair week with Salmon to 18lbs, 32 were reported, along with 8 Sea Trout to 4 lbs. The Tweed still getting a few fish, 28 Salmon to 13lb, but fish of the week has to a Sea Trout of 14lbs from Hendersyde. The Grantown Association waters had a few Sea Trout and a couple of Salmon to 10lbs. A couple of Salmon from the Findhorn, 1 each from the Border Esk and the Don, with 4 from the Ness to round up a week where the temperatures were the main talking point.

River Dee Sea Trout river of Scotland, more than the Tay and the Tweed added together, though the Tweed fish were a lot bigger.
