Trouble sleeping in this hot weather so got up at 5 am and went to the South Esk to drown some flies, I fished the Montrose club water at Bridge of Dun, not the most productive of beats, but it happens to be closest to my house and only costs a £10 'er. The tide was up and the river looked full enough to carry a fish or two, well it did but all tiny "finnock", even using large double hook flies, they still kept hitting it. I gave up near lunch time with the tide draining out to show just how low the river is, I did see something decent cause a bow wave as it swam upstream, but all I could get was around a dozen we Troots. I could go back tonight, I'll see how I feel later.

I found the banks a bit tough to get up and down, next trip might be sat on my @rse in a boat or a nice manicured lawn on a well kept beat lol

Whist at a fishable height, the Wye has been closed since 14 June due to high water temperatures. No sign of cool weather coming. So far, of the three days booked this season, we have only been able to fish one day. At least my guest caught two, 15lb and 19lb but both spinning.

Rain over the hills at the top of the Esks, whether there's enough we will have to see.

At the back of my parents house was the Great Central railway, behind the track was the Grand Union canal and the river Soar, so I could sit fishing watching the steam engines go by.

Raining steadily, but no movement on the rivers yet, the ground is soaking it all up.

I have some friends on the Dee, the week after next. They are watching the weather, with fingers crossed 🤞.

I hear the sea trout fishing has been good so tell them to bring a single handed rod as well.

More light rain overnight, but the ground is still soaking it up, there's barely an inch in the local waters though the Dee had a wee lift and the Deveron is rising.

A foot of rain in the upper South Esk, I can't make it tomorrow, but might try on Monday or Tuesday.

2 and 3 lb Salmon reported from the Spey this past week, they are clearly not finding very good winter feeding are they?

Not kept up to date, got whizzed into hospital again, I reckon my fishing is trashed for another season, but I'm still on the greenside of the grass lol.
