Good luck when you get out. You still have a couple of weeks to go.

I fished on the Ness a week and a half ago. We were speaking to a chap who fishes the beat regularly and he told us that the entire beat had only had 32 fish for the entire year. It was however very nice water but with its close proximity to the City Centre we were pestered to death by tourists, mainly American. It was only then that my wife pointed out to me that we were tourists too. They were more interested in seeing her fishing than speaking to me which in all fairness suited me but she was quite uncomfortable with. I don't know why as she performs far better than the vast majority of male anglers who I have taken to Scotland with me before now. We were staying in a cottage quite literally on the Shin Falls on honeymoon and driving home last Saturday proved to be a bloody nightmare. it took us over 12 hours but that was nothing compared to the obvious plight of many Scots who's houses we saw flooded out. All of the rivers we crossed had burst into the fields and quite a lot on to the main roads, some even onto motorways. The worst we saw was the Rivers Garry, Tummel and Tay. Looking at news reports it seems there was no loss of life which I suppose ultimately is all that really matters. I will be on the Lune this week and weekend to flog the water into a boiling foam. I have had reports that there is a salmon in there somewhere.

We have three days of more heavy rain coming, so more floods likely, I hope the Lune is kind to you/

I hope people, and their property, in the red weather warning area keep safe.

I think I might have more chance of catching a squirrel or maybe a cuckoo. The banks of the Lune has many cuckoo's. It has a lot of birds too

Huge flood damage on the Esk river, the lovely old bridge at Bridge of Dun has partially collapsed, the road at Marykirk has all but been washed away and the rivers are still rising, Brechin will be inundated, hope all keep safe. People are still driving around, they are playing russian roulette in these conditions.

Despite the storm the Gallery beat has had some Salmon and Sea Trout, they have had a good summer/autumn, well done Neil.

I can only assume Neil's beat didn't suffer the same devastation as most others. The recent rains knackered the final week of the Tay season and it's looking like most of the final two weeks of the Esk's. I was supposed to be out Monday and Tuesday coming but the estate cancelled. Might take a daft turn and try Tweed as compensation. Not long till January !!

Well that was a non event fishing wise, I could have done without two trips to the hospital, but hopefully problems fixed and already anticipating next year. We went for a drive over to Aboyne and drove back down the length of the lower Dee, it looked in fine fettle and the huts still seemed to be in place and not washed away!! Plans are for a trip or two on the Dee as well as the usual Esks and Tay, both with the double hander after the mythical Salmon(well they are a myth to be just lately) and the single hander for the Sea Trout and Grilse in the summer.

Certainly a season to forget. Didn't do anywhere near the amount of sea trout fishing I normally would but plan to address that next year. Its a pity that most of the Esk beats couldn't fish the final few days as levels were good and overhead conditions fair. This was mainly due to access issues caused by tracks being washed away I believe. I plan to walk a few beats over winter or as soon as the river shrinks again. It will be interesting to see any changes. Roll on January !!
PS. I hope those making recoveries make speedy recoveries.
