I'll post some info on here as to what is happening and where, once I get over the operation I will try and get fishing and do some reporting to see if we can get this fine old forum breathing again.

I am also waiting to go in hospital for a second Heart operation, so this year's fishing, like last year's, is on hold. Hopefully might get out into the autum. If anybody is out there let's try and revive things. I look in most days.👍

Good luck with your op and I hope a full and speedy recovery follows, after they removed half a kidney to get rid of a tumour I didn't fish after February, when I had a day on the Isla fishing for Grayling, first time in over 60 years I missed a whole seasons fishing.

As well as a Salmon a 3lb Seatrout came off the Dee yesterday, they had 32 Salmon last week, more than the Tay or the Tweed, here's hoping a few travel further south and swim up the Esks as well.

Hi David. I hope everything goes well for you and we can catch up somewhere on a riverbank in the not too distant future.
Burnie - as you probably know, a few beats on the Northie have been picking away as you would expect. The Southie is now starting to see a few fish creeping forward. I read that a magnificent 26lb'er was taken off Insewan last week - just goes to show the the size of fish that travel this wee 'burn'.
Continuing with the 'old boys falling apart' theme - my season is just getting back on track after developing a particularly severe case of Lyme Disease last August which resulted in a 3 week hospital stay during which I was literally paralysed from the waist down until they found out what it was - this took two weeks of blood tests, MRI scans (plural) and a couple of Lumber Punctures (not nice). This was followed by a long spell with a zimmer, finally graduating to crutches - which were still needed until the turn of the year. Prior to this, as far as I am aware, I've never been bitten by a tick before and was blissfully unaware I had been on this occasion. Beware !!
However, on the bright side I have managed a few 1/2 days on the North Esk, a Dee trip just after the start of the season and a few hours here and there on Kinnaird (Tay) - but still waiting to open my 2023 account.
Might have a look a Cortachy next week - especially if we get another couple of 'lifts'.
Hing in there !!

Just looked in to the forum after a long time. Good to see it is still going. I see that I am not the only one cracking up but at 75 now what can I expect. I don't do much salmon fishing these days preferring to get my rod bent at my local trout fishery which has been very productive for me with 10 rainbows to 5lbs last Thursday with 4 on dries. The fishery I go to has park benches all round the side. Not particularly comfortable but good for parking old legs and bums. Even catch a few from the bench but have to slide down on my backside to net them. I have a day on the Spey at Wester Elchies on 25th April courtesy of an old friend and a few days booked on the Deveron(mainly for trout) in May. Keep it going for as long as you can. Old age is not for softies.

Look forward to it David. Best to Mike.
Glad your still getting about Mel - seems like an age since we shared that Doner Kebab after being caught poaching the wrong beat of the Stinchar. Och! the memories......

If that's possible I could be back fishing by late summer.

My party who are on Kercock have finished, with just the one fish. Very few fish seen over the four days. River is down to about 1'2" . They were as always well looked after by Garry, who's biscuits aren't as good as yours, Andy🤣. The next outing for them, another I'll miss, is Stobhall in six weeks.

I've never been on a group trip like that after Salmon, been all over the place after coarse fish, so can sort appreciate the craic.

For me a lot of it is about the company. My wife passed away 9 years ago, and I live on my own.

The Dee is still producing the goods, the Blackhall beats in particular, my first visit to the river in 2021 was on Upper Blackhall, a very nice part of the river.

I see there is some rain forecast for Sunday night into Monday. Let's hope it materialise, the North West rivers could do with a flush of fresh water to get 5he fish moving, hopefully.
